Police probe link between Anthoupoli attempted murder victim and shooters

Relevant News

Investigators in the attempted murder case in Anthoupoli are examining ties between the victim and perpetrators following the discovery of video footage showing the parties travelling together before the attack.

Nicosia CID, analysing CCTV footage from multiple locations, confirmed that the 34-year-old victim was riding alongside the assailants’ scooter before the shooting. This suggests either a prior acquaintance or the perpetrators were closely tracking the victim.

Authorities are scrutinising the victim’s actions after leaving the Lakatamia Police Station. Video evidence indicates he departed on his high-powered motorcycle at an unusually slow speed, enabling the attackers on a lower-powered scooter to intercept him.

Investigations continue with a focus on locating the white scooter used in the crime and any identifying details about the helmets worn by the assailants. Forensic analysis of three bullet casings recovered from the scene has also commenced.

Statements from at least three eyewitnesses are being considered alongside a forensic examination of the victim’s phone for clues about potential communication leading up to the incident.

Police leadership has stressed the urgency to solve this brazen daylight crime to maintain public order. The victim’s possible connections to recent arson cases, the Ayia Napa incident, and his relationship with the murdered Alexis Mavromichalis are being investigated.

The 34-year-old remains in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital with three gunshot wounds.

Government pledges evaluation of anti-crime measures

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis addressed concerns about escalating crime, stating that existing measures are under constant review for effectiveness.

He emphasised the ongoing commitment by both the police and the relevant ministry to implement additional measures as needed.

Letymbiotis acknowledged that combating criminality is a continuous challenge faced by all nations and requires ongoing reassessment of tools and strategies.
