Cyprus Film Days 2024 partners with Queer Wave for a special screening of The Blue Caftan

Cyprus Film Days International Festival and Queer Wave, the Cyprus LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, invite you to a special screening of The Blue Caftan, the award-winning film by Moroccan director Maryam Touzani, at ARTos House in Nicosia on Sunday 7 April 2024 at 7 pm. 

With a story that weaves a new fabric of possibilities for queerness in cinema, threading together old and new, this joint screening of The Blue Caftan aptly marks the first collaboration between the two festivals, in anticipation of Cyprus Film Days’ 22nd edition, which launches on 12 April 2024.

Come and meet the Artistic Directors of both festivals, learn more about the festivals’ programmes and mingle with other cinephiles!

Synopsis

Halim and Mina run a traditional caftan store in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. In order to keep up with demanding customers, they hire a talented young man as an apprentice. Slowly Mina realises how much her husband is moved by his presence.

The Blue Caftan had its world premiere in Cannes in 2022, where it won the International Federation of Film Critics’ FIPRESCI Award for Best Film at the Un Certain Regard section. The film was also Morocco’s official entry for the Oscar race. The film premiered in Cyprus during the 3rd edition of Queer Wave.
