Relevant News

With the occasion of the graduation of the new specially trained canine handlers, last Saturday showcased the action and capabilities of these specific dogs, as well as how they can prove to be an exceptionally valuable ally of the Correctional Facility.

According to a statement from the Prison Department, addressing the global challenge of drug introduction and trafficking, as well as readiness to suppress potential violent incidents, is a strategic challenge.

“In this challenge, as exceptionally valuable allies, the K-9 Units offer invaluable assistance,” it is stated.

Additionally, it is noted that detection dogs are trained to locate the presence of narcotics, explosives, and other prohibited items.

The heightened olfaction possessed by these specially trained dogs, under the guidance of their experienced handlers, automatically turns them into valuable assets and invaluable resources in the battle against illegal substance and item trafficking in the Prisons.

Furthermore, it is mentioned that through specialized training, they are able to significantly aid in immobilizing individuals in potential violent incidents or riots and substantially contribute to their suppression.

The presence of detection dogs in the Prisons, as explained, helps create a safer environment for both the staff and the inmates, while the successful identification and removal of prohibited items significantly reduce the likelihood of incidents and disturbances, thus improving the overall atmosphere within our Correctional Facility.

“The establishment of the Special Canine Unit in our Prisons, its development, and especially its utilization, have empirically demonstrated that it is an effective strategy in reducing the problem of drug introduction and trafficking within the Prisons,” it is noted.

Simultaneously, it is added that they also function as a deterrent measure to discourage potential offenders since they now know that the chances of being detected and ending up in a cell themselves are increased.

Lastly, it is reported that the Canine Unit (K-9) of the Prison Department constitutes a significant and substantive investment in enhancing the security and operational readiness of the Prisons.

Therefore, the Prison Department’s Directorate has expressed its readiness and willingness for further strengthening and expansion of the Program.
