T/C teachers’ union to hold anti-‘government’ protest tomorrow

Relevant News

The Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers Union (KTOEÖS) has confirmed its plans to hold a demonstration tomorrow in front of the assembly building and the ‘Ministry of National Education’ in the occupied north.

The demonstration is held to address concerns over perceived threats to the lives of children, trade unions, the environment, the social fabric, as well as health and education.

Beginning their demonstration at 3:00 p.m. from their headquarters, the union will lead a march, expected to reach the assembly at 3:30 p.m. At 4:00 p.m., they will proceed to the ‘Ministry’.

In an official statement issued on behalf of the union’s board of directors, KTOEÖS Secretary-General Tahir Gökçebel contended that numerous policies imposed upon society, enforced by the ‘government’, are seen as undermining all institutions, assets, and organisations through the implementation of social engineering tactics.

Gökçebel asserted in his statement that policies enacted by the ‘government’ are aimed at discrediting and disorganising established institutions. He argued that every sector of society, including institutions, doctors, teachers, public servants, and workers, is systematically undermined.

Additionally, Gökçebel stated that the general public is grappling with economic hardship, asserting that “privileges, corruption, and irregularities have reached their peak.”

The demonstration had been previously postponed, due to the death of a teacher at Kurtuluş high school, Kibris Postasi reported.
