CYTA workers to extend industrial action

Relevant News

The trade unions representing works at CYTA are set on escalating their industrial actions.

Following a two-hour work stoppage on Tuesday, they are now calling on their members to indefinitely abstain from overtime work. Simultaneously, they announced a 24-hour warning strike scheduled for January 16, 2024.

In a joint statement, the unions EPOET (OHO-SEK), ASET-Cyta, PASE-ATHEK, SEDIKEK-PEO-Cyta, and SEP-ATHEK, express their commitment to labour peace, emphasising that both parties need to contribute to maintaining it. However, they lament the lack of effort from the organization’s side to ensure this, citing “actions, omissions, and maximalist demands.”

The announcement continues by stating that following the two-hour work stoppage, they expect the administration and management of the organisation to reflect on their responsibilities regarding the destabilisation of labour peace. They urge them to seriously consider the positions of the trade union movement in the significant chapter of Institutional Innovation and personnel evolution.

“We hope that the organisation will reconsider and understand that the final proposals presented to us cannot be accepted as they are. From our side, as a continuation of today’s work stoppage, we are forced to escalate our reactive measures,” concludes the statement.
