Violin & Piano Recital with Konstantina Maimari and Christos Yiallouros

As part of its Cyprus Artists Series, which is dedicated to the endorsement of leading musicians from Cyprus, the Pharos Arts Foundation presents a violin and piano recital with two brilliant Cypriot artists of the younger generation.

With her performances having been described as “warm, vibrant and full of energetic nuance”, violinist Konstantina Maimari has appeared in prestigious venues, festivals, and concert series around Europe, including the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh, Festival d’ Aix en Provence (France), Rosin Chamber Music Festival (UK), and has collaborated with orchestras and ensembles such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish National Opera, and the Brodsky Quartet. Konstantina will team up with the remarkable young pianist Christos Yiallouros – currently a doctoral student at Oxford University.

With an impressive range of repertoire spanning from Baroque to contemporary music, Christos has premiered several new works for piano solo and small ensembles, and has collaborated with animation artists developing projects and performances presented in the London Piano Festival. For their recital on Thursday 11 April 2024, at The Shoe Factory, Nicosia / 8:30pm, Konstantina Maimari and Christos Yiallouros will demonstrate their exceptional talents in a virtuosic programme of sonatas by Beethoven, Stravinsky and Prokofiev.

KONSTANTINA MAIMARI violin 

Violinist Konstantina Maimari’s performances have been described as “warm, vibrant and full of energetic nuance”. Konstantina has appeared in prestigious venues around Europe, including the Buckingham Palace in London and Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh, and she has participated in concert series and music festivals such as Festival d’ Aix en Provence (France), Rosin Chamber Music Festival (UK), Kypria International Festival, Mondays and Fridays at One Concert Series (UK), to name but a few. Besides the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, with whom she has appeared as a soloist, she has collaborated with orchestras and ensembles such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish National Opera, Cyprus Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Ensemble, and the Brodsky Quartet, and with conductors such as Pablo Heras-Casado, Jessica Cottis, Christian Kluxen and Alpesh Chauhan. 

Konstantina Maimari is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she completed her bachelor’s degree under Katie Hull, and her Master’s degree under Maya Iwabuchi. She has actively participated in master-classes by important musicians such as Joseph Swensen, Lutsia Impragimova, Leland Chen, Simon James and Simos Papanas. Konstantina received scholarships and grants from the Nicolas Economou Foundation, and the Hope Scott Trust. She was born in Nicosia, and started learning the piano under the guidance of her mother, and the violin under the guidance of her uncle. She plays on a fine copy of a G. B. Guadagnini violin (Turin, 1774), made by Stepan Soultanian. 

CHRISTOS YIALLOUROS piano 

Born in Nicosia in 1997, pianist Christos Yiallouros studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Tatiana Sarkissova. He obtained his Master’s degree with Distinction, and his Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours. In addition, he studied chamber music with Andrew West and early keyboards with Carole Cerasi. Currently, he is pursuing his doctoral studies at the University of Oxford, supervised by Professor David Maw. Christos has actively participated in master-classes by renowned pianists such as Cyprien Katsaris, Alessio Bax, Lucille Chung, Christopher Elton, Yevgeny Sudbin, to name but a few. His studies have received the generous support of the Help Musicians, the A. G. Leventis Foundation, the Royal Academy of Music, the Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation (‘Marios Tokas’ four-year scholarship), University of Oxford (Hélène La Rue scholarship).

Christos Yiallouros made his debut with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17. He has since collaborated with a number of artists, in recital and with a varied range of instrumental ensembles. Recent chamber music performances include Mikis Theodorakis’ Two Sonatas for Violin and Piano and new music for two pianos. His repertoire spans a range from Scarlatti to Bernstein, and from Scriabin to Dutilleux and Gubaidulina. He is passionate about exploring and performing less-known repertoire, and he is currently collaborating with young composers and multimedia artists. During the last few years, he has premiered several new works for piano solo and small ensembles, and has worked with animation artists developing projects and performances presented in the London Piano Festival.

Commissioned by the LUMA Foundation in Zurich to catalogue and curate Nicolas Economou’s archive, Christos Yiallouros is currently transcribing and editing Economou’s un-notated piano works, as well as editing his notated oeuvre, which will be published in the near future. He is also an enthusiastic educator, and he teaches at King’s College London and at the University of Oxford.
