Misleading rental ad leads to arrest in Limassol

Relevant News

In Limassol, a 34-year-old individual was arrested, following a police report regarding the misappropriation of funds through false representations.

Specifically, on 20/4/24, an individual reported to the Limassol CID that on 17/4, through a social media platform, he located an apartment for rent in Limassol.

As he stated, he contacted the phone number listed in the advertisement through another person and spoke to an individual who referred him to another person, and contacted a third person and arranged a meeting with the alleged tenant/owner at the location of the Limassol apartment.

Subsequently, as he reported, he went there with other relatives, where they met an individual who introduced himself as an associate of the owner of the apartment and after they agreed, the complainant handed over the amount of 2800 euros, which was for two months’ rent and other expenses.

On 18/4, the real owner of the apartment discovered that the complainant, along with other relatives, had settled in his apartment, and after it was found that they had been deceived, they left the house.

On 26/4, the complainant reportedly found a new advertisement on the same platform concerning the same details and arranged a new meeting.

When they met, the 34-year-old suspect allegedly fled, was intercepted by the complainant, and then the Police were called.

The suspect was summoned to the Limassol CID where, under interrogation, he made various claims which are under investigation. He was arrested by a judicial order and placed in custody.

Limassol CID continues its investigations.
