The work “The Symposium in Pandemic Times” along with related studies will be exhibited in April by the well-known Cypriot painter, Andreas Charalambous.

The exhibition will be hosted by “Gallery Chora” (Adamantios Korais 1, Archbishopric Square, Nicosia) from 15th to 30th April 2024. The opening ceremony will be conducted by the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, on 15th April 2024, at 19:30.

In his statements, Andreas Charalambous said: “The uniqueness of this exhibition lies in the presentation of a single artwork. The title of the work is ‘The Symposium in Times of Pandemic’. Alongside the artwork, the studies conducted for it will also be presented. It is my contribution to the reflections on society and thought regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. It was painted during the quarantine and restrictive measures, from March 2020 to March 2022. The sources of inspiration are found in the eponymous ‘Little Tragedy’ by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, written in the early 19th century when the plague ravaged European countries.”

The artwork will be discussed by historian and art critic Dr. Eleni Nikita, as well as the artist himself.

The organisers of the exhibition are the Culture Department of the Central Committee of AKEL and the Provincial Cultural Office of AKEL Nicosia-Keryneia.

  • Visiting hours: 16:30-20:30 daily except Sundays
  • Duration of Exhibition: Until Tuesday, 30th April 2024.
