Silia Kapsis, 17, is set to become the youngest Australian to ever grace the Eurovision stage.

This May, the Sydney-born singer and dancer will represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden with the song “Liar”.

Kapsis, the daughter of Cypriot singer Giorgos Kapsis and Greek lawyer and former dancer Despina Saivanidis, carries a family background that spans across Cyprus, Greece, and Australia.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, she said: “I’m so happy to be a part of three countries, it’s incredible,” Kapsis said. “To be of Cypriot and Greek roots and to be born and raised in Australia, I’m so very happy. Three beautiful countries.”

“It might help at Eurovision, of course,” Kapsis said. “[Three nationalities] is a great thing to have, especially when it’s to do with Eurovision. Greece and Cyprus have a good connection, and Australia. We’re all pretty close and pretty connected”, she added.

Kapsis regards her Eurovision participation as a pivotal moment in her life. “This is a dream come true for me, a culmination of years dedicated to singing and dancing,” she reflected.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Kapsis began training on the choreography for Eurovision in Los Angeles in December.
