UK Cypriots, Kyprianou and Soteriou, called up to Cyprus national team

Relevant News

Cyprus will be aiming to build momentum when they take on Latvia in an international friendly at the AEK Arena in Larnaca this evening at 7 p.m.

The Cypriot national team, fresh off a disappointing Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, will be looking to use this match to experiment with tactics and give players a chance to impress.

Fans will have a particular interest in seeing Ruel Sotiriou, the Leyton Orient striker, make his senior debut for Cyprus. Sotiriou has already made his mark at the U19 and U21 levels, scoring three goals in eight appearances for the U21 team.

He’ll be hoping to translate that form to the senior stage and potentially forge a partnership with former Orient teammate Hector Kyprianou, now playing for Peterborough, who’s also included in the Cypriot squad.

While Cyprus seek a confidence boost, Latvia also comes into the match needing a positive result. They’ve been struggling for form recently, losing their last three international fixtures without managing a single goal.

Historically, the matchup favours Cyprus, having won both previous encounters between the two nations in 1996 and 1997.

The game will be broadcast live via CyBC2.
