The strike against WCK was due to a lack of discipline and not a mistake

Relevant News

From the moment it became known that the convoy of the humanitarian organisation World Central Kitchen was hit in the Gaza Strip, resulting in seven foreign workers killed, it was clear that Israel would come under strong pressure.

Israel’s usual response since the conflict with Hamas began, stating “it acts within the framework of self-defence and the laws of war,” cannot justify in any way the targeting of an organisation that provided food to people on the brink of starvation.

The Israeli army acknowledged a serious mistake that should not have happened. At least the second part of the explanation seems logical.

After all, are there errors that should be made? Similarly, Benjamin Netanyahu, without even muttering a small apology, cynically stated, “these things happen in times of war.”

However, even if this were true, it represents a colossal failure of the Israeli army.

Especially considering that the Israelis were informed in advance about the route and the operational area of the humanitarian organisation. The WCK did not act blindly; it took precautions to ensure the safety of its personnel.

Was the humanitarian organisation deliberately targeted to force it to stop and perhaps to instil fear in others to do the same? It is difficult to prove such a claim.

Israel is often accused of using hunger and food as weapons of war, but it would be truly unthinkable for it to reach such a point.

The newspaper Haaretz has its own version of events. In an article, it states that the strike was not due to a lack of cooperation between the humanitarian organisation and the country’s authorities but rather a clear lack of discipline within the Israeli army.

According to journalist Yaniv Kubovich, there was a clear violation of orders given. And this is not the first time such a thing has happened, with the article suggesting that “every official sets his own rules” and essentially acts on his own.

Before the attack on October 7th, the Israeli army had gained a reputation for its organisation, methodical approach, and effectiveness.

In practice, it appeared that this was not the case. Fighting for six months, making one mistake after another, and the objectives set by invading Gaza remain unattainable.

And all this under the leadership of a Prime Minister whose only concern is his political survival.
