The University of Nicosia (UNIC) proudly announces the launch of the world’s first Master of Science (MSc) in Metaverse, a ground-breaking program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for careers in metaverse design and management.
According to a press release by UNIC, the MSc in Metaverse is a fully accredited, interdisciplinary program offered online, catering to the needs of creators, developers, architects, social scientists, financial professionals, policymakers, and individuals interested in shaping the future of the metaverse.
“By combining technical expertise with essential soft skills and competencies, such as 3D modelling and design, VR/AR development, blockchain/NFT, data skills, project management, marketing, communication, creativity, and collaboration, the program provides a comprehensive foundation for success in this emerging field,” UNIC said.
Professor George Giaglis, Professor at the University of Nicosia, and Executive Director of UNIC’s Institute for the Future, expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce the world’s first MSc in Metaverse, showcasing our commitment to delivering forward-thinking education that addresses the demands of rapidly evolving industries. The metaverse represents the future of human interaction and offers tremendous potential across various sectors. Through this program, we aim to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this exciting new landscape.”
The MSc in Metaverse is structured into three semesters, spanning one calendar year, from September to August. It comprises two thematic areas: Metaverse Management and Metaverse Development, each offering specialised courses designed to provide students with a well-rounded education encompassing all facets of metaverse technologies and their application.
The MSc curriculum includes UNIC’s flagship MOOC NFTs and the Metaverse, which is delivered on-chain and inside the metaverse and is taught by UNIC faculty and Punk 6529 – a deeply influential thinker on NFTs and the metaverse and one of the largest NFT collectors in the world – along with an incredible array of guests, including Balaji Srinivasan, Fred Wilson, Chris Dixon, and Beeple. The first iteration of the course, in October 2022, attracted more than 20,000 online students.
To further support students in pursuing their educational aspirations, the University of Nicosia is pleased to announce a scholarship program worth €300,000 annually. These scholarships will provide financial assistance to exceptional applicants, allowing them to pursue the MSc in Metaverse without financial constraints.
Enrolment for the September 2023 intake of the MSc in Metaverse program is now open, and prospective students are invited to register in order to receive more information about the program as well as the scholarship application process. With limited availability and strong global interest, early application is encouraged.
