Government, Church involved in Ammos Kambouri beach scandal (PHOTOS)

Relevant News

An environmental crime and a big scandal involving golden passports and a violation of development incentives contrary to even the EU acquis is taking place at Ammos Kambouri beach in Ayia Napa since 2012.

And it seems that the ongoing tolerance of arbitrary and illegal interventions in the once tranquil beach area is carried out with the “blessing” of both the government and the Cyprus Church which has land there.

This is what Philenews reports citing a debate on Thursday before the House Interior Committee.

The debate brought to the fore an old scandal connected to Malaysian fugitive Jho Low that obtained a Cypriot passport after coming to Cyprus in 2015. It was later revealed that he also made a €300,000 donation to the Church before purchasing property in the area which comes under protected zones.

Illegal and arbitrary interventions fall within the EU Natura 2000 network area.

The debate will continue on May 11 with the relevant departments of the Ministry of Interior expected to provide answers to the questions raised and on the shocking revelations.

The blatant violation of environmental, town planning and other legislation is something that Cyprus has to answer to the Commission as well.
