Two consecutive meetings have been convened by the Attorney-General this week with the police investigators for two very important cases.

According to information from philenews, first, he will meet with the investigators who are probing the cases related to the scandal of granting citizenship to foreign investors and businessmen.

Following this, another meeting will take place on the same day concerning the progress of investigations into the scandal at the Saint Habakkuk Monastery.

Another meeting has been scheduled for the upcoming week, focusing on the possible violation of sanctions imposed by the US against Russian oligarchs by legal and natural persons in Cyprus.

Today, in his statements regarding the investigations into the Saint Habakkuk Monastery cases, the Attorney-General mentioned that “now that various teams and the criminal investigators we appointed have had the opportunity to conduct some work, within days I intend, and have already called all the investigators and prosecutors to come to a meeting at the Legal Service to evaluate where this matter currently stands.”

Asked to comment on whether the case file concerning the video depicting a monk engaging in violent behaviour towards a woman is at the Legal Service, he responded that he is not updated for the time being. However, after the meeting with the involved investigators, he will receive updates.

Before the meeting for the investigations at the Saint Habakkuk Monastery, another meeting will take place with the investigators of the Financial Crime Unit concerning the cases related to golden passports.

There are cases that have been completed and are at the Legal Service, others for which instructions for supplementary depositions have been given, while the progress of investigations for the remaining cases will also be examined.

Decisions are expected to be made regarding the major case involving over 20 citizenship grants, in which a large law firm is implicated.

Furthermore, next week the progress of investigations into the sanctions imposed on Russians by the US will be examined.

Information from philenews suggests that investigations are in the final stages regarding the Russian steel magnate Alexey Mordashov and the $1 billion in shares he is alleged to have divested to avoid sanctions, through an organisation in Cyprus.
