Public confidence in President Christodoulides plummets, survey shows

Relevant News

One year after the presidential elections, President Christodoulides’ image has plummeted to the point where if we were to have elections again today with the same candidates, he would remain out of the second round.

According to research conducted by L.S.Prime Market Research & Consulting Ltd, on behalf of RED WOLF PR and Advertising, in response to the question of whether we would have elections today, Nikos Christodoulides would be third behind Andreas Mavroyiannis and Averof Neophytou.

Moreover, only one-third of those who voted for President Christodoulides last year would vote for him again.

This particular research will be repeated every six months.

Furthermore, the results of the survey indicate that Nikos Christodoulides has very low approval even among voters of coalition parties.

The dramatic decrease in the President’s popularity is also evident as he now has a 45% negative image.

Specifically, in response to the question “Whom would you vote for if we had elections next Sunday?” participants answered as follows:

Andreas Mavroyiannis: 22%
Averof Neophytou: 17%
Nikos Christodoulides: 16%
Christos Christou: 8%
Other: 6%
None: 18%

Additionally, regarding their opinion based on how they voted in the first round of the presidential elections last year, 33% of Nikos Christodoulides’ voters stated they have a negative opinion, 37% have a positive one, while 30% said they have neither a negative nor a positive opinion.

Based on the vote in the 2021 parliamentary elections, positive opinions for the President are held by 23% of DISY voters, 8% of AKEL voters, 48% of DIKO voters, 17% of EDEK voters, 22% of DIPA voters, 20% of the Greens’ voters, and 10% of ELAM voters.

Even more indicative of the negative image of the Government and President Christodoulides is that the most popular minister is “None”.

Regarding the parties, there is a derby between DISY and AKEL for first place in the European elections, both gathering 19%, with ELAM appearing to consolidate its position in 3rd place, even with a double-digit number of 10%, compared to DIKO, which retreats to 4th place with 8%.

EDEK and DIPA are fighting for the 5th place with 3% each, while the Greens follow with 2%.

The credibility of the parties continues to be at the bottom, as only 4% of citizens express trust in them.
