President’s popularity plummets to new low

Relevant News

One year after the presidential elections, President Christodoulides’ popularity has plummeted to such an extent that if the elections were held today with the same candidates, he would not make it to the second round.

A survey conducted by L.S. Prime Market Research & Consulting Ltd on behalf of RED WOLF PR and Advertising reveals that, in a hypothetical election held today, Nikos Christodoulides would rank third, trailing behind Andreas Mavroyiannis and Averof Neophytou. Only one-third of those who voted for President Christodoulides last year would support him again.

Moreover, the survey results indicate a significantly low approval rating for Nikos Christodoulides even among voters from coalition parties. The President’s popularity has dramatically decreased, with a 45% negative perception now attributed to him.

When participants were asked, “Who would you vote for if elections were held next Sunday?” the responses were as follows:

  • Andreas Mavroyiannis: 22%
  • Averof Neophytou: 17%
  • Nikos Christodoulides: 16%
  • Christos Christou: 8%
  • Other: 6%
  • None: 18%

Regarding their opinion based on their vote in the first round of last year’s presidential elections, 33% of Nikos Christodoulides’ voters expressed a negative view, 37% had a positive opinion, and 30% stated they had neither a negative nor a positive opinion.

From those who voted in the 2021 parliamentary elections, 23% of DISY voters, 8% of AKEL voters, 48% of DIKO voters, 17% of ELAM voters, 22% of EDEK voters, 20% of DIPA voters, and 10% of Green Party voters have a positive image of the President.

Highlighting the government and President Christodoulides’ negative image further, the most popular Minister is identified as “None.”

In terms of political parties, there’s a close race between DISY and AKEL for the lead in the European elections, both garnering 19%.

ELAM appears to solidify its third-place position with a double-digit figure of 10%, compared to DIKO’s 8%, which falls to fourth place. EDEK and DIPA are tied for fifth place with 3% each, followed by the Greens at 2%.

The survey will be repeated every six months.
