Police arrest five for aiding illegal entry

Yesterday, the Police proceeded with the arrest of five individuals in connection with investigated cases of aiding illegal entry, transit, and stay of third-country nationals on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

The individuals, all 22 years old, were arrested based on judicial warrants and placed in custody. This morning, they were brought before the Nicosia District Court for the issuance of detention orders.

The Court issued eight-day detention orders against three suspects, while the other two were ordered to remain in custody and appear again before the Court next Thursday, February 22, for the examination of the Police’s request for their detention and the issuance of a relevant decision.

The suspects are being investigated, among other offenses, for conspiracy to commit a crime, aiding illegal entry, transit, and stay on the territory of the Republic, and migrant smuggling.

The investigated cases involve the irregular arrival of migrants between the dates of February 18 and 19 in the Nicosia district.

The Morphou District Immigration Office continues its investigations.
