Nicosia restaurateur Panagiotis Mentzis (known as Zanetttos) has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the mayoral race of the capital city.
In an announcement on Tuesday, Mentzis said he will draw upon his 30-year journey in Nicosia and his interactions with the city’s residents, underscoring the pressing need for a mayoral candidate who prioritises the interests of all citizens, rather than favouring select individuals or affiliations.
In his announcement, Mentzis stated, “With a profound sense of responsibility, I declare my independent candidacy for the mayoralty of Nicosia. My aim is to offer an alternative choice for the people of our beloved capital—a choice born out of the genuine needs of our local community, free from political alliances or backroom deals.”
Highlighting his deep connection with the ordinary citizens of Nicosia cultivated through decades of business in the city centre, Mentzis pledged to be a mayor who truly understands and serves the common good. “My daily interactions with the people of Nicosia over the past three decades have convinced me of the desire for a mayor who prioritises the well-being of all, without bias or party politics,” he remarked.
Mentzis outlined his vision for a “Strong Nicosia, a Human Nicosia,” fuelled by his firsthand experience of the everyday challenges faced by residents. He stressed the importance of addressing the needs of the majority of Nicosia’s community and pledged to dedicate himself to serving every citizen.
In conclusion, Mentzis expressed his confidence in the growing momentum behind his candidacy, stating, “I offer myself as a candidate for the people of Nicosia, believing that the support I’ve garnered will translate into meaningful action.”
