Cyprus expands work permits for foreign students, tightens controls

Relevant News

The Cabinet today announced changes expanding opportunities for foreign students to work in the country and strengthened oversight mechanisms.

The decision addresses seasonal labour market needs by allowing a wider range of foreign students to take on jobs. Additionally, the eligibility timeframe for student work permits has been extended from October 2022 to March 2024.

The new regulations emphasise stricter controls to ensure students remain enrolled in their studies. Furthermore, retail businesses seeking to employ students will require approval demonstrating a genuine need and the absence of unemployed Cypriot applicants.

A benefit for students is the ability to remain in Cyprus and work for up to one year after completing their studies.
