The approval of the environmental authority has been secured for a project with an estimated cost of €3 million plus VAT, concerning the construction and operation of a linear park along the river Gialias, within the administrative boundaries of the municipality of Idalion and the community of Pera Chorio-Nissou.
The construction of the proposed park is expected to take approximately 18 months after the required permits have been secured and the main components of the project are the design of a pedestrian or footpath and cycle track along the Gialias River bed, for a length of approximately 3km.
The aim of the project is the creation of a modern and safe network of outdoor spaces to meet the needs of the residents of the area, to promote the area, to attract people with educational, environmental, and tourist interests (e.g. ecotourism, educational, and sports tourism) as well as to remove illegal interventions in the riverbed of the river Gialias.
The project will also include 44 parking spaces, a dog park, playgrounds, and nature and birdwatching areas.
Finally, the design of the proposed linear park is intended to be easily accessible to people with disabilities and reduced mobility, as well as to people with strollers.
