Larnaca Municipality renovates Piale Pasha promenade

Relevant News

The seaside promenade of Piale Pasha in Larnaca has been transformed into one of the most picturesque streets, completely renovated through facade refurbishment works just before its final stretch.

The buildings along the bustling street, connecting Phinikoudes with Mackenzie, have been adorned with color, showcasing the character of the Turkish-Cypriot neighborhood of Scala.

The completion of the project was scheduled for this month; however, it has been slightly delayed due to issues arising in two buildings near the Medieval Castle.

As reported to Phileleftheros by the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, the project is expected to be completed by mid-March.

“Additional work remains to be done on a refugee apartment building, where insulation and some demolitions will take place. Additionally, a wall with archaeological value was discovered in a house, and we are awaiting instructions from the Department of Antiquities. However, the rest of the project has been completed, and the delays that arose are justified.”

The first houses that have been renovated are white, with colorful windows and doors, while some near the Medieval Castle have been painted with colors chosen by a team of city artists.

The colors were selected from archives, paintings, and engravings of the era, aiming to harmonize with the city’s history.

Before painting the buildings, architectural work was done, including the removal of rotten beams, cladding with ceramics or stone, and removal of signs and materials unrelated to the area’s character.

The area will be further beautified by the Mediterranean Artists’ Park, which is ready and will be delivered on Friday.

The park, located in the Artists’ Neighborhood, connects to Piale Pasha and adjoins the new municipal parking area created in the former Turkish-Cypriot cinema area.

An open square area with greenery and a water feature has been created in the space.

Artists will have the opportunity to create and exhibit outdoor artworks in the park, and cultural events will also be held.

At a later stage, the streets Ak Deniz, Seyhan, Dag Boz, and Boz Kurt are expected to be paved, aiming to further enhance the Artists’ Neighborhood.

Currently, the Municipality of Larnaca is seeking a contractor to undertake improvement works on the coastal pedestrian promenade of Piale Pasha, which has suffered significant damage due to erosion.

As Mr. Vyras mentioned to Phileleftheros, the relevant tender has already been announced, and it is estimated that the first works on the promenade will start during the summer.
