Foreign Minister criticizes British High Commissioner

Relevant News

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stated that the United Nations Envoy should be allowed to do her job.

This was the message conveyed by Nicosia to the British High Commissioner following his recent statements.

Kombos, speaking on RIK, emphasized that the Cypriot government does not accept attempts to find a middle ground, meaning to find something between the basis as defined by the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the position of the Turkish side regarding a two-state solution.

Regarding timelines for results, the Foreign Minister referred to the appointment announcement of María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, where “the absence of a timeline is evident.”

He stated that the Greek Cypriot side is ready at any time and willing to start negotiations immediately.

Regarding Holguín’s contacts in Ankara, Kombos indicated that the whole process is in its initial stages and stressed that her visits should not be elevated to pivotal points. “We must patiently await how it progresses and what the next steps are,” the Foreign Minister stated.
