Finance minister assures payment to RIK employees

Relevant News

The Ministry of Finance will not allow the employees at RIK to remain unpaid, stated the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos.

In his remarks following the Cabinet meeting, Keravnos said, “The Boards of Directors and General Directorates of semi-governmental organisations should ensure, before making decisions, that their decisions are legally, economically, and ethically substantiated.”

“Regarding the issue of RIK, the Ministry of Finance has stated that we will not allow the employees to remain unpaid. The Ministry will act promptly to ensure they receive their salaries,” he said.

It is recalled that the trade unions of RIK, EYRIK OHO–SEK, SYTYRIK OHO–SEK, and SIDIKEK PEO-RIK had sent a letter on March 23, characterising it as unacceptable for a public-law organisation for the potential non-payment of March salaries to the institution’s staff due to a delay in “submitting the RIK budget to the Parliament”, which “clearly burdens the employer’s side”.

Furthermore, the issue of paying March salaries to RIK staff is further complicated as the bank accounts of RIK have been frozen by a court decision in relation to the payment of compensations that have been awarded in a lawsuit against the Foundation.
