After the modification of the charge from premeditated murder to manslaughter, with the victim being 58-year-old Ioannis Polykarpos, the 45-year-old defendant today admitted to the charge he faces.

As reported in the Criminal Court, the defence counsel for the 45-year-old, lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou, requested time to present the facts for leniency in sentencing, while the Prosecutor of the Republic, Andreas Hadjikyrou, did not object.

Therefore, the case was scheduled for further proceedings and sentencing on April 15, 2024.

The Court also ordered that the 45-year-old defendant remains in custody at the Central Prisons.

According to the case history, the victim was fatally injured when he was hit by a vehicle that, according to the charge, was allegedly driven by the 45-year-old defendant.

The fatal road collision occurred in the early hours of January 21, on the Tombs of the Kings Avenue, and the driver fled the scene.
