The Cyprus Presidency has announced a conference focusing on key challenges of the mountain areas in six large Mediterranean islands, including Cyprus, with key participants from the scientific community of EU member countries that will take place in Platres and Omodos between January 28-31, 2020.
The participating islands are Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Balearic Islands, Crete and the Republic of Cyprus, while universities and research centres from Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece, France, and Spain are also listed among delegates.
The conference conclusions will be published in the “Troodos – Cyprus Declaration” that will be released during the last session of the event. The Declaration will be drafted by a scientific committee and will list the agreed national, regional, and community policies to be followed by participating nations and will highlight the particular challenges faced by the Mediterranean island mountain areas.
The event aims to foster dialogue and cooperation among large Mediterranean islands to face common challenges and to develop and rejuvenate their mountain areas.
The Conference is open to the public by registration and simultaneous interpretation services will be available in Greek, English and French.
For further information and registration, the public can contact the Troodos Development Company, visit the event website, call 22952043/ 99737494 or send an e-mail to [email protected] (Contact persons: Evi Kazamia & Nigel O’ Connor)
