Cyprus bolsters security measures following Iran-Israel confrontation

Relevant News

Cyprus has implemented heightened security measures across the country in response to the recent attack on Israel by Iran.

The focus is on safeguarding foreign interests, particularly diplomatic missions and critical infrastructure.

Increased patrols and static guards are now visible at embassies, including those of Arab states and countries not directly involved in the conflict. The Iranian embassy on Armenias Street and the Israeli embassy’s location off Prodromu Avenue have received particular attention, with patrols intensified around the latter following the Hamas attack in October 2023.

As Police Spokesperson Christos Andreou stated yesterday, enhanced security measures have been in place since Saturday, and all information received by the Police regarding security matters is being assessed, with additional measures being implemented where necessary.

“Even in Europe, we witness incidents that are unpredictable. We continue to gather and evaluate intelligence, but there is no specific threat at this time,” Αndreou noted.

The heightened security extends beyond diplomatic missions. Larnaca and Paphos airports have implemented special operational plans with increased presence of armed officers and soldiers at checkpoints and throughout the terminals. Additionally, the “Andreas Papandreou” air base remains on high alert.
