A message with specific recipients behind the explosion at NAVA

Relevant News

The bomb attack at the summer club “Nava” in the Pernera area of Protaras in the early hours of Thursday adds another big headache for the police. The attack refers to the war for control of the night in free Famagusta, and has implications for other provinces, since until recently the management was owned by persons from Nicosia. Recent bombings in the capital are also under the microscope in an attempt to see if there is a link.

The only certainty so far is that the perpetrators of the attack sent a warning message to specific recipients. This has put the authorities on alert for fear of a new blood cycle. Investigations are moving toward a specific direction, however, the unclear ownership of the bar in question complicates the case.

The well-known club, which was chosen in the summer mainly by holidaymakers rushing to the area from Nicosia, is closed due to the winter season and was due to open before the summer. The explosion, according to police, occurred shortly before 2 am on the east side of the premises causing extensive damage. It was determined by members of the Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division that a low-powered improvised explosive device was detonated outside a roller door.

Various items of evidence were taken from the scene and have been sent for scientific examination, while persons previously involved in the management of the summer bar, as well as others who may have been involved in the case, will be called to give evidence at the offices of the Famagusta CID.

Investigators in the case are seeking testimonies from residents and closed-circuit television cameras in the area. It is noted that police are investigating a case of attempted destruction of property with explosives.
