Relevant News

The Drug Enforcement Agency believes they have dismantled a criminal gang trafficking large quantities of cocaine and cannabis, based in Larnaca.

So far, the Larnaca DEA has arrested five individuals, including a mother and son aged 54 and 19, as well as a 33-year-old who is alleged to be the mastermind behind the gang.

It all started last Saturday night when police officers discovered a small quantity of cannabis in the car of the 19-year-old after a search.

A search followed at the residence where he lives with his mother, where 2 kilograms and 623 grams of cocaine, as well as 2 kilograms and 733 grams of marijuana, were found.

The mother and son were arrested and detained by the Larnaca Court.

According to information from philenews, the drugs appear to belong to the 19-year-old and were in plain sight in the house, with the 54-year-old being arrested to assist with the investigations.

The investigation revealed that behind the large quantity of drugs was a trafficking gang operating possibly beyond the boundaries of Larnaca province.

The arrest of a 25-year-old followed, and yesterday the police handcuffed a 33-year-old and a 20-year-old, who are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court within the day for detention orders.

The 33-year-old, who has previously been employed by the police and has served a prison sentence for a drug case, is believed to be the mastermind of the gang, giving instructions to the other three young individuals on guarding and trafficking the drugs.

The investigations by the Larnaca DEA continue in an effort to clarify where the gang sourced the drugs from and whether there were other members in the trafficking network.
