Arrest for the attempted murder of Dimitris Andronikou

Relevant News

On Easter Sunday, the Nicosia CID arrested a person as part of the investigation into the attempted murder of 34-year-old Dimitris Andronikou (23/4) on the Palaichori – Anthoupolis road.

According to Philenews, this is a person of Romanian origin, who was arrested the previous Saturday along with nine other suspects but was released. His lawyer, Alexandros Saouris, had raised the issue of the absence of testimony to justify the police’s request for his detention.

The Magistrate had ruled for this person, as for two other Greek Cypriots, that the evidence did not support a “reasonable suspicion” of their involvement in the offenses under investigation, and thus rejected the request for their detention (she had approved an 8-day detention order for seven other persons).

However, it is obvious that since the police proceeded with his re-arrest, it means that the CID investigators believe that evidence against him has emerged.

However, according to what the Nicosia CID had presented last Saturday before the Nicosia District Court, they believe that the suspect of Romanian origin had provided the physical perpetrators of the criminal act against Demetriou with a stolen scooter-type motorcycle.

They are the 7th and 10th suspects, who have been in custody since Sunday (28/4). The former was allegedly driving the scooter and the latter is believed by police to be the one who shot the 34-year-old at least three times.
