USA: Fire at the iconic Timberline Lodge hotel

Relevant News

A fire broke out at the Timberline Lodge Hotel located in Oregon, United States, known as the Overlook Hotel from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining.

Its roof and attic were engulfed in flames, but fortunately, the fire was brought under control before it could spread to the rest of the building.

Both guests and staff were evacuated immediately, with no injuries.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, John Burton, the hotel’s marketing and public relations director, said there are suspicions that it was the embers from the fireplace in the main building that started the fire. “The fire did not penetrate the interior of the hotel,” he said.

For those who don’t know, Stanley Kubrick shot the footage used in “Timberline Lodge” as the exterior of the “Overlook Hotel” where the story’s metaphysical and horrific events take place, starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Jack Lloyd.

The interior of the “Overlook Hotel” was actually based largely on another hotel, the “Ahwahnee Hotel” in Yosemite National Park.
