The Friends of Akamas received no response to their request for a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and the Director-General of the Environment.
In their statement, just before the deadline, they reiterate their request for a meeting to present their well-documented views on critical issues related to the management of the Akama protected areas and the sustainable development of communities.
They emphasise that the decisions of the Ministerial Council downgrade the extent of the ill-conceived plans and the damage caused during their implementation. They also note that essential information for conducting an investigation is not provided to the Auditor General. They await the immediate assignment of responsibilities and the convening of the Ad-hoc Committee to examine road planning and draw conclusions about the procedures.
The Friends of Akamas, apparently more competent and informed than many governments, believe that the infrastructure of the National Park should be reconsidered before repeating the traumatic experience of adjusting geometric characteristics. The silence of the current government regarding the non-declaration of the protected areas of the Akama Nature in their entirety as a real National Park remains unexplained. What do the authorities ultimately want? If they don’t hand over Akama to developers, will they not rest?
