The Old Market of Pallouriotissa will host an exhibition of paintings by Penelope Konstantinou and Maria Charalambidou starting from Wednesday, April 17th.

Penelope Konstantinou, an internationally acclaimed painter and portraitist, is a graduate of the Fine Arts School of Florence, Italy.

After her studies, she lived in Cyprus for two years, where she began exhibiting her works and worked as an assistant to set designer Angelos Angelis at THOC (Theatre Organization of Cyprus) and other private theaters.

From 1987-2005, she lived in the USA. Since 2005, she has permanently resided in Cyprus. She paints and teaches at the “Penelope Art Gallery” studio in Nicosia.

She has held over 36 solo exhibitions and 70 group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad, including at the Louvre in Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Venice, Turin, Zurich, Miami, New York, and Austria.

She was internationally awarded the Leonardo da Vinci Award in Florence in 2018 and the Andrea Mantegna Award in Mantua, Italy, in 2017.

Through her art, she aims to change the viewer’s internal world and uplift them spiritually. Her series “Search for Freedom” is inspired by human life and mental strength in solving every problem encountered in life and freeing oneself from obstacles towards happiness.

In her series titled “The Muses Create a New Bright World,” she expresses her vision for creating a new radiant world, a world that befits and deserves each one of us to have.

This series conveys to the viewer the idea of a New Bright World and becomes a common prayer for its realization.

In another series titled “Oxygen,” she is inspired by the natural universe, the beauty of nature, and the need for respect and contribution to its eternal survival as our shared space for survival and creation.

Her works are found in many parts of the world in state collections, museums, and private collections, such as those of Martin Luther King’s family, Jean Michel Jarre, Yanni, Cristiano Ronaldo, and others.

Maria Charalambidou

Maria Charalambidou is a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens in industrial design, where she also taught.

Maria comes from Alona, the village of the renowned painter Themelis Kanthos, whom she often watched with other children painting. She discovered her talent and love for art from a young age. For many years, she took painting lessons with the late acclaimed watercolorist painter Kyriakos Lyra, who eventually considered her ready and encouraged her to hold her first solo exhibition in December 2019.

After Kyriakos Lyra’s passing, she decided to continue her painting lessons with Penelope Konstantinou. Her works are present in many private collections.

Location: Nicosia, Old Market of Pallouriotissa.

Opening: Wednesday, April 17th, 7:30 pm. Duration: until April 20th.
