The “right to self-defense” and the occupying forces

Relevant News

The right to self-defence is enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. However, this right cannot be used without limitation, nor does it cover all situations.

On 7th October, following Hamas attacks, the Western bloc rushed to support Israel, asserting its “right to self-defence.”

The “right to self-defence” certainly does not imply establishing occupation, nor is it limitless.

The “right” to defence does not entail ethnic cleansing and genocide.

When reference is made to this right, all the powerful, who support Israel, mean what we are witnessing in Gaza: an imperialistic war of extermination against a people. They bombard a hospital and present it as “self-defence” because they suspected Hamas was hiding there.

They kill children, describing it as collateral damage. Everything is labelled “self-defence.”

Benjamin Netanyahu continues a destructive war, resulting in thousands of deaths. Since images broadcast from Gaza could not easily find “defenders,” despite crimes being committed with international tolerance, Israel found itself on a lonely path.

Feeling the political and diplomatic isolation and wanting to restore the “warm support” it once had, Netanyahu proceeded without informing any ally and targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus on 1st April.

He targeted no other site but a diplomatic mission, protection for which is covered by the Geneva Convention! Israel and Iran do not share a border, which is why Tel Aviv chose to strike the consulate in Damascus.

It is noted that every diplomatic mission is considered sovereign territory of the country. Clearly, Israel wanted to provoke Iran’s reaction this way.

Knowing that Iran is a “red flag” for Westerners, Israel provoked the confrontation. The Israeli strike on Iran’s diplomatic mission went almost unnoticed.

Most countries “swallowed” it, even though Tel Aviv’s attempt to escalate and widen the war was evident.

An escalation that logically no one desires. Tehran’s response last Saturday was controlled, and Tel Aviv had been pre-informed. Obviously, Israel will continue because that is their plan.

Netanyahu and those around him have opened the doors to the asylum. They choose a destructive war. Tel Aviv focuses attention on the conflict with Iran while continuing operations against Palestinians, continuing the genocide.

Meanwhile, both Israel and its allies boast “overwhelming pride” in the reflexes and effectiveness of Israeli air defence. The fact that this confrontation could escalate the war seems to go unnoticed by the various international players.

What seems to matter is the performance of Israeli air defence and the support provided by Britain using its bases in Cyprus.

So, when it serves them, Article 51 of the UN Charter is invoked. And the reading and interpretation are not correct. There are other articles that international players could invoke if they were objective and correct. Articles that concern genocide and crimes against humanity.

Therefore, Israel has the right to self-defence! Only that. It will attack, and there will be no response! Because some favour this war and destabilisation, they deliberately provide cover for the occupying force.

The truth, however, and this must be said, is that self-defence never involves establishing occupation, fragmentation, and rewarding expansionist forces. And this concerns all powers with these characteristics, whether it is Israel or Turkey.
