Green Dot Cyprus said on Wednesday that it has once again surpassed its recycling target of 65%, with total recycling in 2018 at 82% with 56,560 tons.
It said that it had collected 5% more household recyclable material (PMD, paper and glass in 2018 compared to 2017. Commercial/industrial materials recycled in 2018 were at the same levels as 2017. There was a significant 11% rise in the recycling of glass after concerted actions in this direction, it added.
Green Dot Cyprus also sent 1,121 tons of materials for energy recovery which is only 24% of the target set by law.
As part of a special programme to collect empty containers of plant protection products in cooperation with the Cyprus Crop Protection Association, 13.3 tons of such containers were collected — a 54% increase on the 8.66 tons collected in 2017.
The association thanked the public for participating in the programme on a voluntary basis, despite the absence of a legal framework.
