Animal Party in new appeal for cat food

Relevant News

Animal Party Cyprus has appealed for cat and dog food to help strays and animal shelters amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

It said that because hotels and restaurants have closed, many stray cats cannot find food.

The party said it has sent more than 300 kilos of food to Ayia Napa and another 300 kilos to other areas, to shelters and volunteers. The animal food was donated by companies or by members of the public who had responded to the party’s appeal, it added.

It also thanked Ayia Napa Municipality which has undertaken to help and expressed the hope that other municipalities and communities would follow suit.

The party said its appeal, particularly for cat food for which there was a great need was ongoing. Anyone who can help should telephone 70078080.

Last month, the government said it would give €50,000 in emergency funds to beleaguered animal welfare associations as they struggle to feed animals under stringent restrictions imposed to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

Dog shelters have struggled as much of their fund raising is from events which have had to be cancelled or shops that have been closed as part of measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The ban on passenger flights has also hindered adoptions abroad.
