Visual pollution at Limassol bus stops sparks outcry

Relevant News

The president of the board of directors of Limassol’s PASIXE, Christos Tsanos, describes the bus stop situation, especially along the coastal road of Limassol, as unacceptable.

While the Limassol Passenger Transport Company records an increase in passenger traffic, most bus stops feature visual pollution, vandalism, graffiti, and even partisan slogans.

These stops have remained degraded for years, lacking maintenance, lighting, and electronic signs.

This issue has concerned both the administrative board of the Cyprus Hoteliers Association of Limassol and the board of directors of the Limassol Tourism Development and Promotion Company for months.

The latter sent a letter to the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades, in January 2024, requesting information regarding the schedules set for the replacement of bus stops, emphasizing that their upgrade would contribute to further increasing passenger traffic in public transportation and improving the city’s and province’s tourist image.

Meanwhile, Christos Tsanos, president of PASIXE Limassol, criticizes the fact that while enormous efforts are made to increase tourist flow, some issues remain stagnant for years.

He asserts that the current state of bus stops, particularly in the coastal area of the city, resembles nothing of a European country.

“We expect the competent ministry and the Department of Public Works to proceed immediately with the upgrade of bus stops and shelters. The scenes we see daily at the stops are simply shameful, making you feel ashamed for both the city and our culture,” he noted.
