Cyprus on Friday received two Air Tractor firefighting aircraft from Spain in a bid to meet anticipated needs in the upcoming summer season, Philenews reported on Tuesday.
However, the procedure to also purchase two fire-fighting helicopters on behalf of the island’s Forests Department appears to be slow, it added.
The two Air Tractors are now in the Akrotiri British military base and on Monday flew to Paphos airport for training purposes of the crew that will be assigned with combatting possible summer fires.
Sticky issues focusing on flight hours of the two Air Tractors’ pilots are expected to be clarified by the end of this week, insiders said.
