Police locate firecrackers, drugs and explosive devices

Within the framework of police actions during the Easter holidays, the following incidents emerged yesterday and into the early hours of today:

In the province of Limassol, yesterday afternoon, during a search conducted at a residence where a 27-year-old resides, 113 firecrackers were found in boxes, as well as a small quantity of cannabis.

The 27-year-old was arrested for immediate offences and subsequently, after being formally charged, was released.

Furthermore, during a patrol near a church last night, two makeshift explosive devices (plastic water bottles containing flammable material with attached firecrackers) were found in an open area.

In the province of Larnaca, around 5 p.m. yesterday, police officers stopped a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old for inspection.

Following a search, two boxes containing 40 firecrackers each were found and seized inside the vehicle.

The 40-year-old was arrested for the immediate offence of illegal possession and transportation of explosives and, after being formally charged, was released pending a court summons.

In the province of Famagusta, around 6:50 p.m. yesterday, members of the Famagusta Police Department noticed a vehicle moving suspiciously near a church. Two young individuals got out of the vehicle and attempted to set fire to piles of wood.

Upon noticing the police officers, they fled. Following investigations, evidence was obtained against five individuals aged between 16 and 18, who were questioned and formally charged for offences related to reckless and careless acts. They were subsequently released.
