Suspended St Habakkuk monks not expected before committee this week

Relevant News

The two currently suspended monks of the Monastery of Saint Habakkuk are not expected to appear before the Investigative Committee, which was appointed by the six-member Synodal Court, this week.

However, a large number of individuals from within the Bishopric of Tamassos and from the circle of the Monastery and the two currently suspended monks attend on a daily basis before the Investigative Committee for testimony, reports the CNA.

According to the information, the two currently suspended monks did not appear before the Investigative Committee yesterday as expected, as due to the large volume of material in front of the Investigative Committee, it was not possible yet to summon them.

As reported by the CNA from a church source, the procedures conducted by the Investigative Committee are “feverish”, while the members work around the clock to produce a report, which will be submitted to the six-member Synodal Court, for decision-making.

The same source mentioned that a large number of individuals from within the Bishopric of Tamassos, as well as from the circle of the two monks and the Monastery of Saint Habakkuk, attend daily before the Investigative Committee to assist in completing the investigation reliably.

As the source pointed out, the members of the Committee “do not want the process to suffer and have gaps”.

“One reason the Investigative Committee has not yet summoned the two currently suspended Archimandrites is that it wants to be completely ready when they come. They are preparing the ground,” they added.

It is noted that when the two currently suspended monks appear and testify before the Investigative Committee, the process ends, provided no new evidence emerges.

Meanwhile, as reported by the Cyprus News Agency last week, the procedure is not expected to be completed before Easter.
