Church committee convenes on St Habakkuk scandals

Relevant News

The investigative committee appointed by the Church convened yesterday to examine the sexual scandals at the Monastery of Saint Habakkuk.

The Committee did not ultimately see the two monks currently on duty, whom they will call for questioning next week.

Yesterday, the members limited themselves to planning their work, with the entire process expected to proceed at a more intense pace.

According to information received by Phileleftheros, it was deemed that before calling the two monks, the committee would be better off examining all the testimonial material before it, in order to ask specific questions.

The two monks will be called upon to respond to the allegations made against them by bishop Tamassos Isaiah, who testified for hours before the same committee.

Among other things, they will be asked to address what is captured in photographs, what has been recorded in sound, as well as in video, which at first glance, leaves them fully exposed.

The two will obviously reiterate the claim that all the accusations against them are the product of illegal recordings and are also “tampered with” through the intervention of experts who know how to handle or even process audiovisual recording devices.

The committee met away from the public eye, and after completing its work, no statements were made.
