British man’s remains identified in Akamas

Relevant News

The bones discovered on November 15th in the Akamas region of Cyprus have been identified as those of a British national, a permanent resident of Cyprus.

Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, stated that the remains belong to 69-year-old John Hugo from the United Kingdom, who had been living in Cyprus and was reported missing on March 24th, 2023.

On Monday, a forensic autopsy was conducted by coroner Nikolas Charalambous and an anthropologist from the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP). According to Nikolaou, no evidence was found to suggest any criminal activity.

The bones, along with clothing, were initially discovered by a member of the Paphos Police who was hunting in a remote area of Akamas with friends. The police were subsequently notified of the find.

The case brings some closure to the mysterious disappearance of Hugo earlier this year, even as it leaves many questions unanswered about the circumstances leading to his death.
