Regeneration efforts in Paphos Anavargos neighbourhood

Relevant News

The regeneration of the Anavargos neighbourhood core in Paphos, as well as the parallel regeneration of the southern area of the traditional city centre, aims to enrich and upgrade the functional infrastructure of the affected areas and to provide a higher level of services to residents and visitors.

A statement from the Municipality of Paphos regarding the ongoing project emphasises that both within the traditional core of the Anavargos neighbourhood and within the southern area of the commercial traditional centre of Paphos, significant problems are observed in the smooth flow of traffic due to the narrowness of the roads.

To improve traffic conditions, it is reported that traffic policies have been implemented which prioritise comfortable and unhindered pedestrian movement, require motor vehicles to operate at a maximum permitted speed of 20 kilometres per hour, and strictly prohibit parking and stopping of vehicles along the road, designating them as Shared Use Zones.

The modern approach and implementation of Shared Use Zones in urban planning aim to reduce the use and dominance of vehicles on the road network, increase safety levels for vulnerable road users, and facilitate movement with environmentally friendly means, creating conditions for sustainable mobility, as highlighted by the Municipality of Paphos.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALEIA 2021-2027” with co-financing from the EU.
