Police urge caution as heavy rainfall hits the island

The Police advise caution for those travelling on the road network

Intense rainfall occurring at this time on Monday afternoon in various areas of the Nicosia province is affecting traffic, as it makes road surfaces slippery and visibility limited.

Specifically, traffic is affected on roads in urban areas of Nicosia and along the Nicosia-Limassol highway, up to the areas of Lymbia and Kornos, as well as the Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia highway, up to the Astromeritis area in Morphou, due to heavy rainfall and strong winds around 2:00 in the afternoon.

In the Troodos areas, rainfall and hail are also affecting traffic, but roads are open for all vehicles.

The Police recommend particular caution for those travelling on the road network, while drivers are urged to drive their vehicles at a safe, reduced speed, maintain a safe distance from preceding vehicles, and have their vehicle’s headlights on.
