The call for interest by the Pafos Aphrodite Festival, which manages the annual opera institution of Pafos, marks the reinstatement of the institution in the summer events calendar after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The Pafos Aphrodite Festival has announced the call for interest from companies in the field to undertake the organization and implementation of this year’s opera festival, which, as every year, will take place in the open space of Pafos Castle within the upcoming September.
This development has spread satisfaction among the entities and citizens of Pafos, who in recent years have expressed strong concerns about the future of the institution following the interruption of recent years.
However, the authorities of the institution dismissed allegations of the abolition of the opera festival, attributing the temporary interruption to the difficulties caused by the pandemic.
They assured that all necessary measures would be taken to prepare everything in time for 2024, so that the international annual institution that made Pafos known in opera circles would return.
The top cultural event in Cyprus for the past fifteen years has not been organized since 2019, initially due to the coronavirus and in the last two years for reasons that have not been clarified, but according to competent factors, they are related on the one hand to the disagreements and differentiations that led to the change in the organizational structure of the organization and the overall degradation of cultural issues in the city after the period of being the European Capital of Culture, and on the other hand, with the resignation of the responsible officer for the institution at the Pafos Municipal Hall and her departure from the Municipality.
