A group of irregular migrants on five boats from Syria were spotted this afternoon off Cape Greco by Republic of Cyprus radar systems.
More than 200 people were believed to be on the boats, two of which had already docked at the Golden Coast area, carrying 21 and 150 migrants respectively.
Police and civil defence assisted in the operation, with ambulances also on the scene.
Most of the new arrivals were women and children and appear to have set off from the coast of Lebanon, as soon as the weather improved.
Their personal details were taken at the fishing harbour and were then transferred to the Pournara Emergency Reception Centre in Kokkinotrimithia.
Mid-March saw the highest number of arrivals with 458 migrants on six boats, a rise which placed authorities on alert.Â
