Migrants call for anti-racist protest on Saturday in Nicosia

Relevant News

An anti-racist protest has been announced by migrant and local activist groups in Nicosia on Saturday.

In the aftermath of the events leading to the death of the young Anisur Rahman from Bangladesh on April 10, another anti-racist protest took place in Limassol last Saturday.

The new protest will take place at 12 noon, on Saturday, 20 April at Solomou Square.

The announcement calling for the protest:

Racial discrimination in Cyprus is becoming more and more blatant. Being a migrant is not a crime. We all risk our lives in search of a better life and hope for our families. Coming back in a coffin because of a manhunt against us is a crime. The Cypriots and Cypriot government should know its history. They were also refugees at one point in their lives and Congo especially welcomed them without any discrimination.

Yes, we are undocumented. Yes, we are mavros (black). Yes, we came illegally. Yes, we are poor.

But yes, we are human. Yes, we have the will and the courage to work hot. We even do all the shitty jobs that Cypriots and their children don’t have the courage to do. We just want to work and live, live better and support our family home, is that too much?

Stop stigmatizing us.

Stop making us subhuman.

We are also children of the people.

The earth belongs to all humans and we are humans.
