A 10-year prison sentence was handed down on Friday by the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court to a 67-year-old man for the rape and abuse of a friend in December 2021 in the Larnaca district.
Upon hearing the decision, which was announced behind closed doors, the convicted person reportedly began shouting and raging, resulting in the intervention of police officers who escorted him to the Court’s custody.
After a hearing, the defendant, was found guilty on four charges: rape, sexual harassment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sexual assault by penetration.
The 67-year-old, who had previously been in a relationship with the 61-year-old victim, raped her at his house in the Larnaca district on December 13, 2021.
He initially immobilized and assaulted her, and then raped her, while she struggled to escape.
The key witness in the case was the victim herself, who described in court the horrific events she endured.
