Police are investigating the death of a 65-year-old man from Nicosia, Panayiotis Hadjicosta, who was found dead inside his car at the bottom of a 20-metre ravine in the village of Gerakies on Tuesday.
The vehicle was spotted by a member of the public at around 1 p.m. and officers along with paramedics were called to the scene.
Hadjicosta was found in the driver’s seat and pronounced dead by medical personnel.
According to preliminary investigations, it appears he lost control of his car while driving on a private, fenced-off dirt track at an unknown time and under circumstances that are being probed. The car subsequently plunged down the ravine.
The cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem examination scheduled for April 4.
Morphou Traffic Police, in collaboration with Pedoula Police Station, are continuing their investigations.
