Dimitris Michail, 20, passed away on Sunday evening after his vehicle plummeted into a ravine in Limassol’s Agia Fyla region.
According to Limassol Traffic Police chief, Marios Charalambous, around 7:40 p.m., authorities received a distress call from 112.
Police, the fire service and an ambulance arrived at the location from where the distress call was sent.
Rescue teams discovered the vehicle in a precarious state at the base of a ravine, with Michail found within the wreckage.
Firefighting units managed to extricate his body from the overturned vehicle and transported him to Limassol General Hospital.
There, medical professionals confirmed the young man’s death.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had collided with and breached a guardrail before falling into the approximately 50-meter-deep ravine.
Preliminary findings indicated that Michail was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Additionally, there appeared to be no evidence of braking before the crash.
Police are investigating the case.
