Senior officials from 35 countries and international organisations are convening in Larnaca, Cyprus, to address the issue of food security in the Gaza Strip.
The two-day meeting, which began today, focuses on finding solutions to the ongoing food crisis amidst the continuing war in Palestine.
Over 150 attendees, both physically present and participating virtually, are deliberating on the coordination and management of humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza from Cyprus by sea.
Additionally, discussions aim to secure financial support for the “Amalthea” project, a Cyprus-led initiative specifically designed to tackle Gaza’s food security challenges.
According to a statement by the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the primary objective of the meeting is to establish a framework for the technical implementation of the “Amalteia” Plan, ensuring its long-term success.
This includes the creation of a joint fund to support the project financially, alongside addressing other logistical elements crucial for its smooth operation.
